This expansion has allowed varied aspects of society the ability to tell stories. User friendly video cameras and editing systems society the means to tell stories. This course enables students to comprehend and develop the basic concepts and techniques in different aspects of video production. The main focus and foundation to good filmmaking is basic camera operation, lighting and editing. Objective: To understand how video works as a medium of communication To learn the process of video production, from pre-production to production to post-production, and the technical and non-technical skills involved. To learn how to structure stories that appeal to an audience To understand the similarities and differences between field and studio production Text: No required textbook. Handouts will be distributed in class. Equipment and Supplies: Mini DV tapes Recommended Reading: Zettl H. (2006). Video Basics 5. Wadsworth Publishing: Belmont, CA. E-Mail requirement: All students are required to use Kean.edu accounts. You can forward all your Kan e-mails to your personal account. Course Policies and Requirements: More than three absences will severely hamper your grade. Two late arrivals = 1 unexcused absence. All assignments are DUE ON TIME. Class participation is necessary and require. Things to keep in mind: I dont have time is never an excuse. This class requires at least 3 hours outside of class time every week. You need to attend the Mac lab to practice the editing software when we get to that juncture. Production takes a lot of preparation. Revise, revise, revise, and revise. This is a tough and fun course. It is what you make it. Plan ahead always. Last minute work shows, always. Make sure everything works before you check out equipment and leave distribution room. This will cost you a lot of time if you dont. Parking or doctors appointment is not an excuse for being late or absent. If you have any difficulties, please, dont hesitate to contact me for help.
