Two short films by Larry Tung, assistant professor in the Department of Media and Film, and his student, Leala Arnold, were respectively featured in the 8th Annual Cape May NJ State Film Festival.

"Arts and the City", directed by Tung, is a short film about the emerging arts scene in Newark.  It was the second film by Tung this year.  His other film of the year, "Envisioning Justice", was an official selection of the New Festival, San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, and Rhode Island International Film Festival.

"Marcio in America", directed by Arnold during her summer documentary filmmaking class, is about a former law student from Brazil living in Newark faced with difficult job prospect and language and cultural barriers.  Arnold was a senior in the Department of Media & Film, and her film was a product of Tung's Documentary Filmmaking class.

M & F Faculty Receives Television Academy Fellowship

Larry Tung, assistant professor in the Department of Media & Film, was recently awarded a Faculty Seminar Fellowship from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Tung joins a group of only 20 professors from around the country, including University of Florida, UCLA, Wayne State University, and SUNY-Geneseo.  During the one-week seminar in Los Angeles, Tung met with many television producers, writers, and directors, and toured the sets of the ABC hit show “Brothers and Sisters” at the Disney Studios in Burbank.  He also had a chance to attend a live taping of the Tonight Show, and attended a Q & A session with network executives at the Fox Studios.

“It was a very intense but productive week,” said Tung.  “We covered so many topics about the television industry.  They range from reality television, digital media, mini-series, programming to internship opportunities for our students.  It was an incredible professional development opportunity for me.  I am still using the information I got from the seminar in my classroom.”  The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences hosts the annual Emmy Awards and bases its national office in North Hollywood, CA.
