                              Program Description
                              B.A. in Communication: Media
                              B.A. in Communication:Film

Starting in Fall 2010, the Program in Media & Film offers two major options with a B.A. degree in Communication.  The Media option has a common core designed to prepare students with a solid foundation of theory, content, and practical media skills.  Students learn the basics of audio, field, and studio  production, which prepares them for specialized or advanced level coursework in production, news or management. The separate Film Option is for those students whose main interest and passion is film.  It combines film production, theory and aesthetics.

                              Media Option

Students will be exposed to a variety of media careers and can select their electives to prepare them for careers in radio, television, and corporate settings.
All broadcast majors must apply and further develop their production skills at the upper level by producing, directing, writing, and performing in departmental, college, and university programming venues offered through the various class Production Companies.  They also work at professional internships and produce, host, and manage programs on the department run FM radio station, WKNJ.

                              Film Option

Students interested in FILM and FILM ANIMATION will receive a well rounded education in history, theory, and film production techniques.  Using digital video technology, students will have the opportunity to write, produce, edit and exhibit work that culminates in an individual or collaborative project in a senior level film festival.  Coursework is designed to support creative production that can be initiated, developed, edited and honed through constructive criticism from dedicated professional faculty.  Production class size is small so that students can receive individual attention, advisement, and access to equipment and facilities.  Students are encouraged to use their elective classes in professional internships within the New Jersey or New York film industry along with other opportunities in the tri-state area.
